Jolly Roger's

Pirate Rumble

JRPR in short is an action arena fighting game. A chaotic couch co-op where pirates rumble against each other in different game modes. JRPR is heavily inspired by the likes of games such as Warlock

(a DOTA mod), and Smash Bros.

This game was a collaboration with Sun Technologies

SUMMARY

Responsibilities

  • Created and modified arena layouts to accommodate various changes and different game modes.

  • Worked closely with programmers iterating through gameplay features; player abilities, power-ups, and other game mechanics.

  • Defined rules and helped in prototyping player abilities and game modes.

  • Designed and polished the user interface

  • Worked with Art Director to ensure changes in the environment are both beautiful and do not conflict with design.

ARENA DESIGN

JRPR has 5 different game modes -

  • Free For All – Every Pirate to himself! Your friendship will definitely be tested in this mode!

  • King of the Map – There can be only one true King even amongst the Pirates! Fight for the crown and dominate the map.

  • Team Deathmatch – Team up and defeat the opponents!

  • Capture the Flag – Classic team-based CTF except you really need to watch where you step.

  • Rum Run – But why is the Rum gone? Find out with your friends!

There are multiple ways to kill your enemies in Jolly Rogers: Pirates Rumble, from pushing them off the map to bumping into them and damaging them or using the different ultimate powers.

WHAT DID I LEARN?

This opportunity helped me to learn top-to-tail details of creating a polished ready-to-ship game title. I quickly learned that as a designer, you don't work in a vacuum. Everything you do affects other people's work on the team and learning to understand that effect and how to be a professional is the key to successful design implementation. Regardless of what kind of game I work on, design leadership is at the center of success or failure. And the key to being an effective designer is understanding that you are at the center of a workflow that affects all the other disciplines
